(e) War. Little interest in Korea, excepting among families of soldiers and prospective draftees. Neither candidate is a war-monger and there is little sense in either charging the other with such designs. The public is too sensible to fall for this. The public has achieved the classical indifference of our Anglo-Saxon political forebears in treating isolated wars (like Korea) as the inevitable inconvenience of world power.
(f) Communism. Most newspaper people feel that the issue has been diminished by the lapse of time between the Hiss case and the present. That case, if tried in court today, might switch a million Votes. It was the classical case of treason in our time, although the Gold case probably was more important to humanity.
