Over 250 farmers, Vocational Agriculture students and professional people attended the farm equipment demonstration on conservation farming at the W. Arthur Kite and Sons Farm last Thursday. The demonstration was sponsored jointly by. the Ferguson Co. and their local dealer, J. A. Swan Jr. and Co. The Soil Conservation Service, The Agricultural Extension Service, Vocational Agriculture Department and the Farm Veteran Instructors cooperated with the Ferguson Co. and their local dealer in4 carrying out the program.
The Kite farm is operated under a complete soil and water conservation plan, as developed with the Culpeper Soil Conservation District. The farm has the facilities and lends itself well for demonstrations such as that held last Thursday.
Three types of plows were demonstrated, two way, slat moldboard and disk. Even with adverse soil conditions all three performed satisfactoritorily on contour strips. A subsoiler and tillage tool were demonstrated on an adjacent contour strp. Representatives of the Ferguson Co., stated that the tractors could not have operated the equipment had they been pulling up and down hill rather than 'on the contour.
