Mother’s Day—sans saccharine: A couple of years back (or maybe last year, I don’t remember) an opinion was printed that I thought Mother’s Day was a fine thing, but I’d prefer it minus most of the “mush.”
A mother in the county came to pay me a visit and express her appreciaton and agreement. “I don’t want my children to feel that they owe me yything,” she said. “If I have earned their affection, then I enjoy their showing it.”
From the way her children loved her, it’s pretty certain she earned it.
