Miller, Mrs. C. A. Wood- It is interesting to note that many of these charter members have decendants in the Church now who are trying to carry on the work. At nearly ©very service for the first few years there were additions. The first to come by •baptism were Miss Bertie Jenkins and Miss Lizzie Thornton.
Mr. James F. Kemper preached the first few months, the church called him. but he found out he could not accept the call. The first regular pastor was Rev. L. R- Steel, and his first sermon was the Great Commission found in Matt- 28:19-21. The church appointed collectors for the different mission boards soon after it was organized, and also applied for membership in the Shiloh Association August 29th, 1882 through their delegates'being Mr. N. H. Keyser and Mr. James T. Harris. During Mr. Steel’s ministry a missionary society was organized in January 1884, and for these sixty-nine years has tried to carry out the teachings of the Oreat Commission.
