At June 3 Exercises
By Mrs. B. O. Cal fee The announcement that Admiral Lewis L. Strauss, nationally known for his outstanding services in special objectives both during and following World War II would be the guest speaker at Confederate Memorial Day, June 3, was made at the meeting of Culpeper Chapter, U.D.C, held on Friday, May 8, Culpeper Baptist church. The services on June 3, to which everyone is cordially invited, would be held, it was said, in Culpeper Courthouse, and the speaker would be presented by Judge Burnett Miller Jr. Southern music will feature the program, and the exercises in the court house will be followed by a short program at the Confederate monument in Fairview cemetery, where the mound will be covered with flowers and small Confederate flags.
During the business session with the president, Mrs. Thomas A. Jeffries, presiding a cordial welcome was extended to a new member, Mrs. William Ashby Hetrick, and to a prospective member, Mrs. Margaret Jones Stone- In the report given by members who had attended the Fourth District Meeting held recently in Stanardsville, was said that this meeting had unanimously endorsed Mrs. Ferguson Cary, past state historian and even more recently past historian-general, for the office of State President Mrs. Cary was nominated by Mrs. D- E. Walker, president of Warren Rifles Chapter, of Front Royal. x
