Mr. Weatherford, the state bee inspector, was in the county last week and visited several apiaries with your county agent. While I'm pleased to announce Mr. Weatherford found no-foul brood in Rappahannock, many of the hives and swarms inspected were in a neglected state resulting in no income from the bees except the great value they do in pollinization. »
“Know-How” in bee management pays off. In 19‘52 one man with 194 swarms and a $2000 investment sold $3,000 in hone and rented the swarms at $6.00 each to orchardists for pollinization in addition.
That sort of a return is what we all like and can get if we’ll try to improve our knowledge of how to handle bees and then do the job right.
