The first thought that passed through the head was: sounds like the journalism teacher back in under-graduate school, when he said there is never any trouble filling editorial columns; if there is no real material at hand, you are always safe with some righteous, holier-than-thou preaching; i* makes the ladies of the churches happy and sounds pious. _That our* President was sincere-^ and right—is beyond question. Censorship can’t work in the America we know. On the theory of “forbidden fruits,” the people will want to know why a certain book shouldn’t be read. Leave the book on the public book shelves and its communistic teachings will be the object of scorn.
Where some of us may not be convinced that our President is .the greatest the country has ever known, we beamed with pride at his declaration of freedom and the implied denunciation of what is termed “McCarthyism.” It begins to look like a shame that the President can’t bite some of his associates; perhaps they would catch his disease of commonsense and American freedom.
