29 Seniors Bid Farewell
“ The line wound slowly down the aisle as parents craned to see if hats were on straight and graduates swallowed to relieve the fluttering on this Wednesday evening, June 10. Opening the exercises the Rev. G. M. Profitt asked the invocation. Honor graduate Robert L. Massie Jr., delivered the Salutatory. Under the direction of Mrs. Paul Nichols the Glee Club rendered “Look For the Silver Lining,” by DeSylva-Kem. Class data was given by Newbill Miller and Peggy Ann Green, Shirley Weaver presented the Senior class gift of $100 to Mr. Winfrey who said it would be used for various things in the school. Mr. Winfrey then addressed a few remarks to the Senior class. The diplomas were presented to the graduates by Superintendent Q. D. Gasque. Russell -Knight’s "The Halls of Ivy,” was sung by the Glee club. Top honor graduate Alice Mae* Coughlin gave the Valedictory. In the darkened auditorium President Robert Massie gave his responsibility to the Junior President, Kelly Updike. As the seniors surrendered their burning candles, they became alumnae.
With the benediction the third annual commencement of the Rappahannock County High School came to a close.
Church Services
Sunday, June 21st services will be held at Willis Chapel at 9:45 a.m. at Flint Hill, 11 a.m.; and ait Sperryville at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Menchhofer will preich on "Growing in Christian Grace.
Auxiliary Elects Officers
In a re-organization meeting the Ladies Auxiliary to the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Company elected the following officers: Mrs. Frances Thornton, president. Mrs. Mary Lou Davis, vice-president; Mrs. Ann Aylor, secretary; Mrs. Z. H. Sealock, treasurer; Mrs. Betty Weaver, publicity chairman; Miss Louise Schwartz, membership chairman.
The Auxiliary will take over the sponsoring of the dances from the fire company for the summer months. Only tentative plans were made for further activities. . The Auxiliary will meet Monday night at 8 o’clock.
