Auxiliary At Picnic
Clad in white aprons and confident smiles, the firemen of the Rappahannock Fire Department served a picnic dinner to the honorees, the Ladies Auxiliary and other guests, on Friday evening August 28. Ned Jones offered the invocation. Master of ceremonies, William Moffett, welcomed the guests and called upon George Davis to introduce the distinguished guests who included in their ranks, Tom Frost, Warrenton; representatives from the fire companies of Amissville; Culpeper, Lui ray; Warrenton; and Front Royal. ! Ladies Auxiliary representatives from , Amissville and Culpeper.
Following the picnic supper, J. Everett Will, of Luray, president of h«t»' Virginia Firemen’s Association, presented an enthusiastic account of he far-reaching working of firemen’s rganizations in Virginia;
Whenever the order of the day is eversed, as it was by the be-aproned iremen, there’s always a wealth of idding to rise in the aftermath. For instance, from reliable sources we hear (sorrowfully) that the food inspectors (self-appointed) in the kitchen refused to pass a certain cake and promptly ate it all themselves— ''‘too good for mere guests.”
Jesting aside, the picnic was an excellent example of what cooperation and determination can reap. Mrs. Ben Cox, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, expressed the sentiments of the over one hundred persons resent, when she suggested a rising ote of thanks to the firemen in apreciation of their work and worry.
