T2-year record. As far as I’m concerned, the weather-man can postpone the next heat wave for another 72 years; then I won’t be here to endure it.
If people hadn’t become so smart and made so much progress, we wouldn’t have to be hot; at least, that’s what some scientist said recently. He advanced the theory that the destroying of trees caused this excessive heat. His explanation was over my head, but he said something afbout trees breathing in carbon dioxide and giving off oxygen while animals— including the human variety — breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. The destroying of trees in such wholesale slaughter conducted by “civilized man” has got the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide off kilter (so the fellow said) and that’s why it’s been so hot. I’m gtting ready to subscribe to a wholehearted program of tree-planting. Not that I understand any of the scientist’s lecture, but if there’s any chance that this humid weather can be prevented, I subscribe and promise full co-operation.
