Pvt. Taylor Smoot Leaves
For Japan
Pvt. Taylor Smoot, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Smoot Sr., returned to Camp Stoneman, California where he will be shipped to Japan for duty for two years. Pvt. Smoot recently completed his M.R. training in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
MISS SUSIE STRINGFELLOW, RETIRED TEACHER, DIES
Miss Susie Stringfellow, 83, died at her home in Culpeper, Friday, August 28. A retired teacher, Miss Susie taught school 51 years, 49 of them in her native Culpeper county. During the past ten years, when she was an invalid, the esteem with which she was held was evidenced in the way “her children” whom she had taught would visit her.
Daughter of Bruce William Stringfellow and Sallie Broadus Stringfellow, Miss Susie was born at “Ashleigh,” in Culpeper county. She is survived by a brother, B. W. Stringfellow, three sisters: Miss Lucy A. Stringfellow, Mrs. Aubrey Bowie, and Mrs. Felix Maddox, Jr. Among the surviving nephews and nieces are Bruce S. Bowie, Miss Lucy Catherine Bowie, andMiss Burma Bowie; and Mrs. Julian Updike and Miss Susan J. Stringfellow of Front Royal.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, 4 o’clock, in Fairview cemetery, Culpeper, with the Rev. W. Franklin Cale officiating.
