Johnson Family Reunion
As proof of the clan’s hardiness, over 200 of the “Red Oak Johnsons” survived the terrific heat a-top the mountain in attendance at the family's annual reunion, Sunday, August 30. Gathering from New York to Norfolk, clan members heard E. E. Johnson, attorney of Culpeper, make the speech of the afternoon. Proving that the dinner had been plentiful, the speaker fell through the platform. Fortunately, he was not hurt.
E. E. Johnson, as president of the clan for the past .two years, presided over the election of officers. Those named were C. E. Johnson, Jr., of Sperryville, president; Raymond Johnson of Woodville and William H. Johnson of Culpeper, vice-presidents; and Mrs. R. M. Johnson of Woodville, secretary-treasurer. Highlighting the afternoon was the distribution of the beginnings of the family genealogy. Following this, cousins visited and, by request, there was a swapping of yarns, some of them family folklore and some reminiscences.
The meeting, date for next year, as well as time and place, was left to a committee. It was reported that if the ladies had anything to do with it, the location would not be the top of Red Oak Mountain! The broiling sun and lack of shade got the ladies' spirits as damp as the gentlemen’s
