Mrs. Frances Thornton talked on “First Aid in the Home,” to the F. T. Valley H. D. club and the upper grades at Belle Meade School. Mrs. Thornton cautioned the group that first aid is immediate and temporary care given the victim of an accident or illness. It is better to do too little in most cases than to do too much. Remember to keep calm above all things. Cautions stressed by her were: 1. Do not apply external heat, cover loosely with blankets or coats but do not use hot water, blankets or heating pads unless the doctor says to. 2. Do not give fluids to semiconscious or unconscious persons or to anyone if it increases their nausea. 3. Do not attempt to clean any wound that needs a doctor’s care. 4. Do not use absorbant cotton directly on a wound. 5. Do not touch the side of a dressing that goes directly on a wound. 6. Do not use any ointment on a bad burn—let the doctor do that if he thinks it is necessary. 7. Do not tear clothing away from burned area, if it is stuck. 8. Do not try to dislodge objects stuck in the eye, ear or nose. Treat a tourniquet with utmost respect if you are compelled to use pne.
Mrs. R. M. Johnson was the hostess to Woodville H. D. club Friday. The club decided on special interest projects. A candlelighting ceremony in recognition of club officers with each receiving a corsage. First aid in the home was given to the club.
