Randall Updike is the third son of Mr. and Mrs. John Updike of Washington, to be honored as a “4-H’eij Of The Month.” Four ! years ago, this quiet and industrious young man began his 4-H career with an acre* of com. One - huridred and twenty - four bushels ; were produced on this acre, to win him second prize in the Junior Division of the 100 Bushel Corn Club. He has continued this excellent beginning by enlarging his projects each year in both scope and number. These | projects now include sheep, corn, rural electric, Holstein heifers, Hereford cow, lav' ing hens and a Poland China gilt. By this Fall he will have completed sixteen projects. . _ 'l
Randall’s main interest is his sheep and like all successful shepherds, he is quiet and kind with them, placing the needs of his sheep above those of his own. Five ewes and 3 years equal $292.00 net profit. $53.04 prize money, 10 ewes and a promising crop of spring lambs for Randall.
A regular participant in die Harrisonburg 4-H Lamb Show, Randall has placed near the top consistently. , ■ , Randall is an active member of die Rappahannock Livestock Judging Team and just naturally has taken to ‘a set of sheep shears.
Still young in 4-<H work, Randall has already realized the practical value of his projects and through jiard work has met success. We expect to hear of even' larger successes in the future. 4
