County Roads
The State Highway Commission ■ today announced allocations totaling $155,944 for maintaining, and improving Rappahannock County’s system of secondary roads during the fiscal year beginning July 1.
Virginia’s 40,000-mile system of secondary; roads was allocated a total of $33,191,085, exceeding by $2,679,778 the amount alloted for the current fiscal year.
Most of the state money is distributed to the 96 counties in the secondary system by a formula which includes population, secondary road mileage, rural area and vehicle miles of travel. (Arlington and Henrico counties maintain their own secondary roads and are not included in tl|£ allocations. Federal secondary money is distributed on a three-factor basis which includes area, population and road mileage.
