A copy of the address given by S. M. Thomson, President, Baltimore Bank for Cooperatives, interests me, and I hope you, very much especially since other work prevented my attending the annual membership meeting of the ShenValley Meat Packers.

Thomson makes it clear he is not worried over his bank’s investment as it holds first lien, and too sound appraisers have found the .value to be definite there.

The encouraging part is drat Shen-Valley is making money, has done so in the past two yean and has made belter than average cooperative progress in its fint years of operation—improvements have been- made in the plant, experience and organization of personnel and management.

Thomson stresses die future success of'the organization to depend principally on two things: 1st, membership, loyalty and secondly, more and better sales outlets. Membership loyalty expressed by use of the plant as a place to market some of the livestock produced. Naturally competition in the marketings and i processing field are trying to make it tough. Competition is good in any endeavor, however, I’ve neVer seen any cooperative hold up prices unless it did business itself either ip buying or selling which ever end it is on. Loyal coop members always help the non-loyat however they usually do themselves more good. Most of our wool producers have stuck together and have made United Wool Growers a success. By sticking they have helped themselves most of all arid boosted wool prices received by others..
