Social Security New$

' Students who arc looking lor work should be sure to have a social security card, according to Robert E. Parsons, Assistant Manner of the Alexandria Social Security office.

Mr. Parsons pointed out that because most jobs are now under social security, the need for a card is greater than ever. Employers will ask to see the account number card before putting the^ student to work. Some employers may refuse to hire unless the applicant has a card. The information on the social security card, the person’s name and account number, are needed by the employer for his records in sending in the worker’s social security tax.

Mr. Parsons noted that the social security card represents an insurance policy with Uncle Sam. The social security tax paid by the worker is credited to his individual .policy, which is identified by the name and number onr the card. The amount credited to the policy, throughout the years, will help determine if benefits will be payable and the amount that can be paid.
