Vote Set For June 25
Wheat growers are pointing to Saturday, June 25, the date when -they will decide whether wheat marketing quotas will remain in effect for the 1956 crop. Quotas have been in operation in 1954 and 1955.
If growers approve the program by at least two-thirds vote, marketing quotas for the 1956 crop will become effective and wheat growers with acreages in excess of 15 acres and the farm allotment Will be subject to penalties on any wheat marketed. Wheat will be considered to be marketed If milled or used on the farm. v When Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson announced marketing quotas for 1956, subject to growers’ vote, he announced a national allotment of 55 million acres, the minimum level specified by law and the same national acreage allotment in effect for die -1955 crop.
