Your Wheat Acreage
Farmers who seed as much as 75 per cent of their 1956 wheat allotments will not be penalized for underseeding in the establishment of any future acreage allotments, Mr. Barksdale, Chairman of the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee has announced. This new feature of the wheat program was recently announced by the Secretary of Agriculture. In 1954 and 1955, to get credit for seeding his full allotment, a wheat farmer was required to seed at least 90 per cent of his allotment.
The county chairman explained that past acreage history is one of the major factors in distributing wheat allotments to individual farms. Under the new ruling it will be unnecessary for a producer to seed “right up to his allotment” in order to protect his acreage history. If the producer does not underseed by more than 25 per cent of this allotment, the farm will be considered as having seeded the full allotment in 1956 for purposes of future wheat acreage allotment determinations, Mr. Barksdale explained.
