EGGS
A drop in egg prices this week won’t surprise us. Production is up in both large and mediums, and the New York market-usually a pace-setter for Virginia prices—had already lost about 3c at the end of last week.
In Richmond A-Large eggs were 51c; Harrisonberg, 50c Roanoke, 48-50c; and New York topped at 48V2c. *
Mediums ranged 32c to 34c in Virginia; 34-35c for local New York eggs.
The discouraging situation in the egg industry’s next-door neighbor, broilers, may well effect Virbor, broilers, may well effect Virginiaginia’s long-range egg outlook.
The big effect may be to add impetus to the trend away from farm flocks toward bigger, more. efficient commercial flocks.
