I saw something else that I had never noticed in a snake before, I discovered a long row of tissue sacks joined together **y a hair-like cord.
Taking the point of my knife and opening one of the sacks, I found a young rattler about seven inches long, fully developed, but had no rattlers. There were nine of these sacks and each held a small snake, ill about the same length. On another trip in the woods. 1 stepped over not once, but three times' a largei timber rattler and this was the largest rattler I ever saw in the mountains, and I have seen quite a few big ones. This snake measured fifty two inches from tip to tip and was about the size of a table glass, and he never once moved or rattled, with' all my stepping over him.
Well I also peeled the hide off this snake, and in his stomach I found two young rabbits about half grown, maybe the rabbits saved me, I don’t know, then too he could have been like some people who have eaten too much dinner .and “kind ‘o’ in misery" like, and wanted to take a nap.
