But many of our religious scholars, however, havef been taking a second and sometimes dubious look at this revival. For there seems to be a tendency to make Christianity a shallow thing; or, to quote Dr. R. M. Brown of Union, “a gimmick for getting what we want.”. Others have expressed similar fear that this revival is weakening the relationship between God and man. Dr. Roy ■Eckhardt, of Leigh University: “The lamentable thing about the current revival is the growing tendancy of people to expect God to serve them, rather than the other way around.” Reinhold Neibuhr: “It (the 20th century revival) is involved in self-worship rather than the worship of God.” Rabbi Elliot Grafman: “God is for many men today a sort of glorified bellhop, to be summoned by the buzzer of prayer.”
