For a number; of years Rappahannock County )ias had planning committees in Horticulture, Agronomy, livestock, Forestry and 4-H and Older Youth. All of these committees has had a common goal _to increase net farm income today and during the years ahead. Their efforts have brought results. They need to continue to plan, renew their efforts and must have increased support from the people in general.
Such helps a county, as is evidenced by our | recent calf sale. Where the results of committee and Extension Service personnel amount to but 1c per pound such would be $6168.63 increased income. But as one cattleman put it _“Our markets couldn’t handle the feeder calves we produce were it not for our! organized effort which has brought in buyers whose feed lots are 400-500 miles away.” Then too, organized feeder calf sales are price setters.”
This is silted as a result of planning and putting a plan to work. Is it enough? Should the county have more? What about our young people? With increasing operational costs ini running our county, how are we going to finance this increase? By increasing income, but no one wants increased tax rates.
