CATTLE ON FEED
In the next few months watch for prices on fed cattle to move downward to a slightly lower level. This change will be small but watch for some short time dips due to occasional heavy marketings.
The latest (Oct. 1) estimate of cattle on feed in Virginia shows a total of 13,000 head ready for market. Of these, 66 per cent, will be marketed before the end of the year if intentions pan out.
The number of cattle and calves on feed for market in 21 feeding states total 4,766,000 head on Oct. 1_an increase of 20 per cent from a year ago. Cattle feeders reported they evpect to market -approxi mately three-fourths of this number during October, November and December. If these intentions are carried out, marketings would be 24 per cent above the same period a year ago.
And here’s another significant fact from the report.cattle and calves on feed in the nine North Central States are running 15 per cent over last year. So—feeder operations have definitely picked up Steam.
