Alert and active Mrs. John A. ThQrne celebrated! her 100th birthday last Wednesday, October 21 at the home of hejr daughter, Mrs. Mamie Payne of The Plains. A card of congratulations from another “October Baby”, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, highlighted the occasion.
Another daughter, Mrs. Bessie Dowden of Warrenton, joined the celebration, which was marked with a beautiful white birthday cake decorated with red ro. es. Although a rather jpoor eater, with just a fondness for milk and plain cooking, Mrs. Thome enjoyed die cake.
Mre. Thorne, who is well known in the Warrenton area, is a native of Rappahannock County. The former Miss; Alvirta Cunningham was bora near Cast let on on October 21, 185j9, a daughter of George Cunningham and Mary Gooch-Cunningham.
