At “Greenfield” are 50 of the blight-proof trees set out asbout 25 years ago by the late Mr. and ‘ Mrs. John A. Browning. Henry : Timbers, who has had charge of the orchard for many years said : they gathered about four bushels this fall. '
Mr. and Mrs. B/owning were very much interested in the trees, not only for the nuts but for the timber and fence rails. “Is there anything prettier than a rail fence j around a green meadow”, said the mistress of “Greenfield”, who loved to paint rural scenes.
Mrs. William Meade Fletcher : also has a few trees at “Thornton Hill’ that are doing very well, so perhaps we will have plenty of chestnuts in Rappahannock before many years as people are getting j more and more interested in the blight-proof varieties.
