YOUR

CONGRESSMAN

REPORTS

fir Re1>. Burr P. Harrison Washington—Early response to the questionnaire I distributed by mail recently in the 7th Congressional Disrict indicates a rather substantial lack of confidence in the worth of the soil bank program.

The acreage reserve part of this program, which was'brought to an *nd after a history of mismanagement, profiteering and political manipulation', no longer is an active issue, but the conservation reserve continues, and there are indications we shall have before uS in this session of Congress proposals for a substantial expansion of withdrawal with soil and water s'- conservation.

( Most farmers know, but it may br worthwhile to remind other readers, that the soil bank conservation reserve is separate from the so-called ACP program, under which payments are made to landowner for certain soil conservation practices.)
