Interest Increasing

In Civil War

Centennial

It is increasingly apparent that an entirely new attitude towards the Civil War Centenriial is developing in Virginia and in the entire South. Interest is being taken in places where some time ago they just didn’t seem to care.

What has bought this about is a matter of opinion. However, there are a number of facts that are highly significant. One is, that Karl S. Betts, Executive Director, has announced that the Post Office Department has 'been asked for thirty commemorative stamps over the Centennial period and the south has reason to believe now, that the Confederacy will have their share of them. They have been very' unhappy for some time about the “stamp situation.”

Another fact that has added up to enthusiasm is that South Carolina’s request that her Commission be called.not the “Civil War Commission” but the "Confederate Centennial-Commission”, was granted.

The South’s humor is improving and snatches of old war songs are being heard with no touch of bitterness.

“Old Horace Greeley, He writes

very freely, His abolition sentiments recording, But.just let us catch him down

South, We sure will shut his mouth. And land him on the other side of

Jordon.”
