Continued from page tux* merit records of one of these herds shows that in but four years the grade iipproved 42 c/c and the average weight had come up 121 lbs. per head. This represents useage of B.C.I.A. records.
It meant culling 49 cows from a 75 cow herd in five years. It meant selecting from B.C.I.A. herds 96 superior heifers for herd replace' ments. One herd bull was culled because he did not sire calves of d&irable performance. Selection of two herd bulls was made because of .desirable performance which is highly transmissable to their calves.
All five of the herd owners reported the keeping of records was “no” or “not” serious trouble.
With cattle prices on a downward trend these men are scotching the reduction of net income in so far xs management practices are concerned; things within their control.
