Some years ago a friendly young man came to Rappahannock to live. As was to be expected, he made friends quickly. Among them was an old bachelor who lived near where the young man worked. He lived alone and the friendly young man stopped by often to see him, visits that were much appreciated.
Then.the old man med. Naturally the young man was much distressed. He was asked to be one of the pallbearers and felt that he wanted to do, properly, this last thing for his friend. But, he had no suit, suitable to be worn by a pallbearer, so he hastened to Front Royal and bought a black broadcloth suit.
This hristmas, 1959, one of Rappahannock’s highly respected and loved “boys” received a gift from a much loved relative. He wanted her to know that he appreciated it very much and tried to make her understand. So, he wrote thusly: (we take the liberty of paraphrasing)
Dear ' Thank you so very much for my wonderful Christmas gift. It was -sweet of you to remember me so thoughtfujly. As you know, I only wear a tie on the most important occasion, the funeral. I feel, that at such a time one should always be properly dressed out of respect for (he deceased, so I shall, at the next funeral I attend, wear,-|he beautiful- bright red tie you so thoughtfully gave me.
