Rappahannock feeder pig producers will get together a 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 4th at the courthouse to discuss marketing ofj feeder pigs. Roi Godsey, Extension Swine Specialist, will lead the dscussion and tell of how such sales held in Virginia last yeair were operated.
A Nummary of questionnaires returned to the county agent's office shows 17 farmers are interested, who expect to produce 575-585 feeder pigs this year.
The interest shown by Rappahannock producers represented 30 percent of the farmers sent questionnaires.
Last year Virginia farmers sold 8965 feeder pigs through organized Sales at $4.00 to $4.00 pjtr head above the prices offered “at bome.1”
Feeder pig sales already planned to be held by Virginia swine prbducer* for 1960 are: Richmond, 6 sales; Aynchburg, 4 sales; Courtland, 7; Petersburg, 3 and Tappahannock, 5 sales, 'In this end of Virginia, possibilities of holding sales are being looked into at Culpeper and Front Royal.
Counties included in the Culpeper area are: Orange, Madison, Greene, Fauquier, and Culpeper, I f it is decided to hold sales at both Culpeper and Front Royal, Rappahannock producers will likely sell pigs at both places depending the location of their farms.
Producers from, each county interested in an arej^ sale should e4 lect a director to represent them. Final decision on whether a Feeder Pig Sale will be held at Culpepej; will he decided February ii it which time each county concerned will be represented. All interested Rappahannockans are cordially invited to he present on February 4 at the courthouse. The meeting will start promptly at 7?30 p.m. and should be over by nine.
