A recent ruling by the'Food and Drug Administration means farmers must keep Alfalfa out of- the cranberry boat!
This means heptachlor should never be used as a spray in controlling the Alfalfa weevil. Also never be applied as a spray to any forage crop, to be fed to beef or dairy animals, or to be shipped interstate.
Approved recommendations for controlling this pest are to apply either granular heptachlor, or fertilizer-heptachlor; Either MUST BE APPLIED BEFORE FEB• RUARY 21. i ' 1 '
Likey this means getting your supply at once.! Rates of application are the /same. Granulated heptachlor (2*4%) should be applied at the rate of 50 to 60 pounds per acre (1*4 to 1*4 pounds of ^ actual heptachlor.)
Fertilize rvheptachlor mixtures containing 4 pounds of heptachlor per ton should be applied at the rate of 700 to 1000 pounds per acre; and those containing 8 pounds- of heptachlor per ton should be applied at 300-500 pounds per acre. be announced next week.
