Kenneth M. Marland, district supervisor of the 1960^Census of Population and Housing which starts April 1, today issuld an appeal to residents of the area to become candidates for jobs as census takers and crew leaders.
Applications for jobs as census takers may be obtained from: T. Morgan
Johnston, Washington, Va. ore the Census District Office, 18 E. Johnson St., Staunton, Va.
Applicants for jobs as census takers must be over 18 years of age, be citizen! of the United States, and have a high school education or its equivalent. Candidates will be required to pass a selection test demonstrating their ability to understand written instructions and read maps. Persons who are presently or recently* associated with law enforcement or tax assessing or collection agencies are not eligible. 1
Census taken will be paid on a piece price basis. A diligent census taker should earn about $12.00 per day the district supervisor said. A $10.00 training fee will be paid to census takers who success* fully complete the course «f instruction required before they start their rounds, and accept a census assignment. For ten minutes the gallery had a good view of the behavior of a bagged fox | as he gained his bearings. Five jtm’nutes after he took to Mascarelli’s woods, Rappahannock Hounds were cast, and off went die I hunters plummeting down the hill toward Devil’s Run and up through Yates “Over The Hill” farm.
The hounds were on the line and drove hard into James Hoffman’s fields. For Approximately 3 miles, galloping wjas fast and mud was flying, unti| hounds marked the fox to earth in Hoffman’s woods.
The pack was blown off and carried through the Gaines’ woods into Baldwin’s, where they jumped a fast grey. They pushed him out into the open pastures of Dr. K. M. Donahue where he made a clever disappearance in the banks of a branch. Continued an page ten
