should like to make the completely non-partisan observation that all partisans (on the farm issue) would perform a great service to American agriculture..if they would help everyone to understand that it is the cost side of the cost-price squeeze that is really hurting farmers' and ranchers.
“The facts are that since the first post-war year (1947) farmers’ gross sales of farm products in the United States have gone up $2.2 billion. Dujring the same period, farmers’ production costs have gone up $8.9 billion. This means that net farm income from the sale of farm products has gone down $6.7 billion oq «a national basis since 1947.
“There are those who would try
to re-establish high, fixed price supports, without regard to tthe supply-demand conditions of the market. But this inevitably would mean re-application of strict production and marketing controls. It would seriously raise our unit costs of production. Furthermore, it almost certainly would result in low level limitations of eligibility—” Senator Clinton P.
