The case of the Commonwealth against Emmett T. Martin, Jr. of Culpeper, who was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing at Bel Air Restaurant in Amissville, ended with a $500 fine and costs and term of 12 months in jail.
William L. Gulley of Culpeper represented Martin.
Gilbert I. Richards of Syria, Va. was tried by the court and found guilty of operating a motor vehicle on a revoked license. Richards was fined $100 and costs and sentenced to 10 days in jail.
Both of these cases were appealed from the trial justice court.

Charles B. Shuman, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation, told the Republican Platform agriculture subcommittee that “it is morally wrong” to delude farmers into thinking their best long-time interests lie in policies that promise bigger government farm program benefits.
“The delusion,” he said, “is especially cruel when offered to farmers in conjunction with other policies that inevitably would increase dramatically the cost of things farmers buy and at the same time jeopardize the future of the private competative enterprise system by feeding the fires of inflation.”
