I he head ot the nation s largest general farm organization, a free, independent non-governmental voluntary organization of 1,602,117 farm families in 49 states and Puerto Rico, said Farm Bureau “is not interested in platitudes, slogans or political panacaes.”
“We are interested,” he declared, “in clearing the roadblocks to higher per family net farm income by finding economic solutions to economic problems. Those who put their faith in government pricefixing, payments and regimentation are pointing the way to peasantry—not the way to high per family farm income.
“We vigorously urge the Republican Party to adopt a platform which will provide voters a basis for a clear choice at the November election. This platform should include a farm plank that will offer freedojfn instead of control, prosperity instead of payments, expanded markets instead of government storage.’!
On the basis of past experience, Shuman said the Farm Bureau is recommending a 10-point set of principles in the area of public policy pertaining to agricultural programs as follows:
1. Farm productions cannot be balanced with effective demand by legislation as long as increased production is being encouraged by government guarantees.
2. We should move in the direction of eliminating government regulation of the right to produce agricultural commodities. j
