Prepare Livestock For Winter November is a good month to prepare livestock for winter. Get rid of external and internal parasites now. Ewes should have a dose of phenothiazine at least a month before lambing. If you are suspicious of tape worm infestation use the pheno-lead drench; however, remember this combination drench shouldn’t be used oftener than once a year. This is a “peak” month in internal parasite cycles.
All calves and yearlings to be wintered should also have phenothiazine; dosage as follows: 300 lbs. 1 oz. or 2 oz. 400 lbs. 1 Vz oz. or 4 oz. 300 lbs. 23^ oz. or 5 oz. 800 lbs. 2 2/3 oz. or 6 oz.
Each winter I see lousy cows, lousy steers, or lousy calves in all sections of the county. Remember it is no disgrace to have cattle get infested but it is a disgrace to let them stay infested. The cattleman who allows his stock to stay infested with parasites has nt> right to complain about hard times. Give all cattle a good soaking spray this month. Put it off to cold windy weather and you may add to your problems.
