The Fredericksburg, Salem, and Richmond Districts cadi have about $21,500,000 in projects under way. The Suffolk and Saunton Districts have about $10,500,000 worth of work, and the Lynchburg District, which has no interstate construction, has work amounting to about $6,700,000.
April is also the month for starting bituminous resurfacing of wom highways and remaking pavement lines. Heavy-duty asphalt will put new riding surfaces on 475 miles of heavily traveled primary and secondary roads, and regular bituminous surfacing will be applied to nearly 4,000 miles of the more lightly traveled hardsurfaced roads throughout the state.
About 7,000 miles of primary roads will receive new painted lines. This year, for the first time, barrier lines will be painted yellow in accordance with standards set forth by the American Association of State Highway Officials. Dash-and edge lines will continue to be painted white.
