R. Johnson Chapter of Rapidan engaged in its first of a series of New -parmers of America contests.
The Livestock Judging Team at Carver won first place in the federation with Charles Slaughter, Angus Arrington and Benjamin Weaver of Madison County. George Banks of Madison County was the alternate. Livestock consisted of Dairy, Beef, Poultry and Swine. In this contest great emphasis was placed on body conformation, body capacity and breed character. Warrenton, Berryville and Louisa followed in the order, as given. The Forestry Contest was held on the same day. Carver again was victorious. Great emphasis was placed on area measurement, tree identification, saw timber estimation, woodland management and pulpwood estimation. Randolph Finks and James McIntosh of Orange County. Ray Goodall of Madison County, Clarence Washington was the alternate. These were the team members. The next contest will be the Federation Elimination which comprises talent, quiz, quartette and Public Speaking. The final contest will be The Tractor Operation and Safety, Tool and Hardware and Farm Mechanics Skills.
