Over 1300enthusiastic fans sloshed through a maze of mud to see the annual running of the Rappahannock Hunt Point-to-Point races held at Thornton Hill Farm near Sperryville Saturday. Blue skies prevailed after a steady rain all day Friday soaked the hilly race course, leaving horses and autos alike plowing through a sticky mire. Arch Kingsley’s Tearmunn captured the cup in the fea- 1 cure event, the Ben Venue, a race for gentlemen. Tearmunn won with an easy 25 ; length edge on Gambler. This is Kingsley’s second j win toward the Seven Cor- i ners trophy. Derrydown, owned by Philip Triplett and ridden by Gilmore Flautt III, was Victor in the Mary D. Slaugh- j :er Memorial open race. He j Tnished well ahead of First ! Mortgage, Mandel and Tall Gheif in that manner. Royal Bim, owned by Joseph Claffey of Warrenton, vas winner in the Mt. Marshall.
