Brochures Available On BCIA Bulls

Brochures on the Performance Tested Bull Sale to be held at Culpeper Enterprises on March 15th have been received. The 83 bulls had a preweaning average gain of 2.14 lbs.
All bulls that sell must grade Choice or Fancy and must have gained 2.05 lbs. day or more while on official 140 day feed test.
42 Angus. 20 Hereford. 17 Polled Hereford, and 4 Shorthorns were included in the feed test.

As previously reported in this column two Rappahannock breeders have had bulls on this feed test: Read Oak Ranch and The Oaks. Red Oak’s Hereford had a 1.99 daily gain on dam, graded choice, and averaged 2.90 lbs. per day on feed lot. This was the highest rate of gain among the horned Herefords and the 4th highest gain of all Herefords. His index— 127 is not to be sneezed at.
The Oaks had six Angus on test, three graded Choice minus, two straight Choice, and one Choice plus. Their rates of gain on test were from a low of 1.92 to two high of 2.63 with four graining 2.23 or better!
