Wildlife Week
C. E. Brown, Game Warden in Rappahannock County, reminds citizens of this county that this week, March 17-23, is being observed throughout the country as National Wildlife Week. “The theme ‘Pesticides are Poison: Handle with Care' is one which concerns each of us," Warden C. E. Brown said. “Pest control chemicals have become so common" he pointed out, “that we often get careless with them." During Wildlife Week conservationists across the country will be pointing out the potential dangers of these compounds to wildlife if improperly used. “Overdoses of these chemicals can kill wildlife directly or poison their food supply" Warden C. E. Brown said. “Applying these chemicals improperly or during adverse weather conditions can make recommended dosages dangerous to wildlife," he pointed out. “Follow all the manufacturer's recommendation, ” Warden C. E. Brown cautioned, “not just the dosage. If in doubt, contact your County Agent." ‘Birds, animals and fish are all susceptible to these chemicals” C. E. Brown said. “Since they often inhabit the same territory as the insects, weeds or other pests we are trying to destroy, we should give them careful consideration before we act" he cautioned. “Our careless indifference could destroy much of the natural beauty which makes this world a better place to live" he concluded.
