Guy Burke dropped in at the News Office last week to renew his subscription. He told me he had broken his probation and was back in jail. Guy was “baby sitting* the jail while Sheriff Estes and Deputy Lillard went to Hanover County to bring back n prisoner for court this Week.
r The time for field and brush fires has arrived and fire companies in this county and surrounding ones are already busy answering calls. Just little more care in when yre burn trash, etc., or where we throw cigarettes could prevent much of this needless expense, which we pay for through support of our local volunteer fire com- ! panies.
One redeeming fact is that a few people do burn their trash for many more dump It on the nearest roadside or ditch they can find. I suggest that Rappahannock join the state anti -' litter campaign now going on. Keep Virginia Clean as well as green.
A local officer of the law was called to Amissville recently by the dispatcher in Culpeper who had received a report that there was a fight in a telephone booth there. Chi his arrival the officer found a man wanting a ride to his home in Warrenton. Said thefellow, “Officers are supposed to be helpful, so I needed help and called one.” Needless to say, we taxpayers are not running a taxi service and the stranded visitor found other means of transportation.
