4-H Supper Attended

Good Food. Fellowship. Fun. That is what 160 persons braved the rain Saturday night to enjoy at the annual Rappahannock County 4-H supper held at the high school. Plans for this fund raising supper had been carefully made by the 4rH County Council, 4-H leaders and Agricultural extension agents. Member assignments were given earlier at the 4-H Club meetings.
Parents, 4-H leaders, and guests were welcomed by 4-H County Council president, Carty Moffett, as they arrived. The turkey dinner was served with trimmings buffet style. Judy Lillardwas the dining room hostess. Other 4-H girls who assisted in the dining room were Gail Updike, Barbara Jenkins, Deborah Pullen, Linda Pullen, Betty Jenkins, Nina Bailey, Sandra Foster, Charlotte Foster, and Patsy Mortez. Also Ann Cannon, Susan Dodson, Linda Jenkins, Jean Woodward, Dede Munro,Diana Woodward, Eleanor Rector, Darlene Woodward, Charlotte Printz, Gloria Durden, Anna Kay Sites, Joan Hickerson, Betty Kay Kilby and Jane Kilby. 4-H boys oh the kitchen committee assisted 4-H leaders and kitchen supervisor, Mrs. John Updike. These included: George Powers, Dennis Hitt, Harold Walker, Harrison Powers, Bob Weakley, and Tommy Williams. Someone had to wash dishes, and assistant county agent, Arlis Frymyer, helped there. These 4-H leaders ably handled many activities to make the 4-H supper a success. Mrs. Irvin Kilby, Mrs John Woodward and Mrs. W. H. Lyne were in charge of the tickets. On the kitchen committee were Mrs. John Updike, Mrs. Ray Cannon, Mrs. Barbara Gentry, Mrs. Earl Kilby, Mrs. Joe Durden, Mrs. Larry Welch, Mrs. Loyd Pullen and Mrs. Frank Cary. Tables and decorations: Mrs. George Davis and Mrs. W. F. Moffett. The tasty turkey was prepared by Mrs. Richard Latham, Mrs. Barbara Gentry, Mrs. John Updike and Home Agent, Miss Barbara Jones. Col. E. E. Holmes provided additional help, as did Lyle and Francis Updike.
Funds raised from the benefit supper will be used to finance 4-H camp and state in Rappahannock County as directed by the county council. This includes scholarships to 4-H camp and state short course and certain prizes and awards, and county 4-H signs.
