enlarged elementary enrollment of the 50’s. Mr. Norton stated that approximately 60% of the funds used for Instruction in the country comes from state sources. He also explained the other divisions of the School Budget, what each division is made up of and what funds are used for each one. A discussion of Instructional Aids in Science, Math and Foreign Languages with emphasis on both the Elementary and High School levels also took place. Special emphasis was placed on NDEA funds available to the schools for equipment and books in these fields, a large part going to the Business Room, the Library, the Science, the jHome Economics Dept, and the Vocational. The Transportation System was discussed at length and it was learned that Rappahannock has one of the most difficult systems in the state. This due to the fact that the buses travel sofar and carry so few children. It was very interesting to know that this year, tor the first time, Rappahannock County is operating its own garage in Sperryville where maintenance and repair work can be done immediately when needed, thus saving the County repair bills and time lost by the breaking down of buses to and from school.
