Local Central Office
Service Begins
The new dial central office of Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Co. at Washington Va. was cut into service at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. May 21. S. E. Brown, District Plant Supervisor was in charge of the cutover. Fourteen telephone company employees were busy throughout the day changing ringings on party lines.Conversion to the new office was started last fall when ground' was broken for the newbuilding which was erected on Cay Street in Washington. J. B. Compton, Di s t r i c t Manager and H. C. Cole, Local Manager were present for the change over. Mr. Compton explained that the installation of this new equipment will allow for future expansion of facilities in this area. Flint Hill and Washington are as are serviced by Virginia Telephone & Telegraph.
