Under the program, a grower who reduces his feed grain acreage (of corn, grain sorghum, and barley) by at least 20 percent of his farm's total base acreage will earn a diversion* payment for shifting the acreage from production to a conserving use. (Payments for 1964 will average highef than latftySar and the maximum diversion is higher.) The participating grower will also qualify for a price-support payment on the normal production of the 1964 planted acreage of the three crops, and for loans or purchase agreements on all the corn, grain sorghum, and barley produced on the farm's 1964 acreage.
Mr. Barksdale reminds farmers that the program signup is now under way at the county office and/will extend through March 2/. He urges an early signup aif the best way to avoid the delays and crowded office conditions which could develop as the deadline nears.
