Residents of Washington, Vir. ginia, who will be driving to the New York World’s Fair this summer, have been invited to visit their sister city in the State of Pennsylvania. Bartley P. Osborne, mayor of Washington, Pa., has issued an official proclamation which extends an open invitation to residents of this area. The mayor’s proclamation stated that the public officials and citizens of Washington, Pa. are eager to meet and play host to residents of their name sake in Virginia. Washington, Pa., deep in historic tradition, is located in the southwestern part of the state, just 28 miles from Pitts, burgh, and an easy day’s drive to the fair — 396 miles. The city is famous as the scene of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1791. The Bradford House, still standing, marks the scene of the leader’s hairbreadth es cape from federal troops. Washington is the home pf Washington and Jefferson Col lege, founded in 1781, the oldest institution of higher learning west of the Allegheny Mountains.
