Alfalfa or Clover?

With the increase in production costs of Alfalfa, it is natural that farmers are asking this question. The answer, however, is not so simple. Soils differ. No two farms are alike, and people themselves are different in their managerial ability. Then too, there frequently is a wide gap between know how and do". How then can an individual reach a reasonably sound answer to this question? The answer must be calculated on the basis of the particular farm in question with due consideration to the man on the land. There are some guide lines, however, whereby the farmer with accurate records can arrive at a fairly sound knswer. But first, is it generally true that a hay crop which will yield a ton to a ton and a half more per acre than another is more expensive to grow?
