Rifle Wound Fatal
To Castleton Youth
Kenneth Allen Settle, an 8 year-old youth of Castleton, was fatally wounded November 26, 1964, in a freak gun accident. The boy died a short while after he was struck In the head by a rifle slug accidentally fired by his father, Charles Russell Settle. Mr. Settle was in the basement of their Castleton home unloading his rifle after a hunting trip, when the gun fired and the slug ripped through the ceiling striking the child who was lying on the living room floor watching television. Kenneth Allen was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by the Castleton Rescue Squad and transferred to University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville where he died soon after his arrival.
The youth was a third grade student at Washington Element School. Obituary on page 6.
Week of Prayer To Be Observed
The Missionary Society of the Washington Baptist Church will observe a week of prayer for Foreign Missions from December 6 to December 13. On Tuesday and Friday at 2 p.m. members will meet in the Educational Building. The theme of the program will be “Worship the King”. All the ladies of the church are cordially invited to attend.
Garden Club Luncheon Slated for Dec. 12
The annual Christmas lunch eon of the Rappahannock Garden Club will be held Saturday December 12 at the Cab Inn, Sperryville, at 1:00 p.m. The luncheon was originally scheduled for Decembers.Members are asked to make their reservations with the Misses Josephine and Anna May Starrv baugh, acting hostesses, prior to Friday, December 11. The luncheon is held in place of a regular December meeting and the wrappings of the gifts to be exchanged will be judged in place of the usual exhibits. Members are welcome to bring guests, with, of course, the corresponding number of gifts.
